Bierhaus — the terrace that takes its own orders
A Helsinki restaurant where guests scan a QR code at the table, order and pay from their seat — and the kitchen runs the queue on a tablet. No POS integration.

Bierhaus is a restaurant and terrace in Helsinki, serving draft beers, wines and a kitchen menu of smash burgers and German-style classics like Schnitzel and Currywurst.
On a busy terrace, every order and every payment normally costs a staff round-trip: catch a waiter, order, wait, flag them down again to pay. Bierhaus moved that whole loop into the guest’s own phone — without asking anyone to install an app or rebuilding the restaurant’s systems.
A QR code that knows the table
Every table has a printed QR code that carries its table number. Scanning it opens the widget in the guest’s browser with a greeting like “Hi! You’re ordering for Table 12” — no app, no login, no typing a table code. The order arrives in the kitchen already labelled with the right table.
The whole menu in the widget
One tap opens the full menu as a fullscreen catalog: draft beers, wines, smash burgers, finger food and mains, with size variants on drinks and VAT configured on the catalog. Guests build their order and send it — straight from their seat.
The kitchen side: a tablet, not a POS
Orders land in Bierhaus’s Answe inbox, and the kitchen confirms them on an Android tablet running Answe’s free staff app — a live order queue with alerts and one-tap status updates. There is no POS integration to build or maintain: the tablet is the order screen.
Payment in the same chat
Once the kitchen confirms, the guest pays through Stripe inside the same conversation. The money goes directly to Bierhaus’s own Stripe account, and the order is delivered to the table.
Open when the kitchen is open
Ordering follows kitchen hours — outside them, the widget shows visitors an offline notice automatically. And every guest gets an email receipt of the whole chat, where the conversation stays active for any question about the order.
